Web Site Privacy Policy

State law requires that users of this site be informed about any information it collects from users and what uses are made of that information. This privacy statement concerns the following web sites (which are in fact addresses for the same computer system):

Server Logs

Our web server will log information about your usage of our website. This includes the IP address of the machine from which you connect, the time and date you connect, and the files you access. This information is only collected for analysis and statistical purposes and to assist in site maintenance (for example, determining the causes of malfunctions). We do not report or use it in any way that would reveal personally identifiable information, and we will not release it to outside parties, unless legally required to do so in connection with law enforcement investigations, legal proceedings, or University investigations of System Regulation or University Rule violations.

Cookies

With the exception of the secure server, this web server makes only limited use of cookies, and then only to facilitate communication for certain special services available only to department members. We do not use cookies to track or obtain personal information about the user.

Email and Forms

Some links on our site are email links. There are also some "forms" pages through which users can submit information. Email addresses or other information obtained through these means is only used in connection with the purposes explained on the form or in response to users' queries.

Secure web site

The secure web site at https://philosophy.tamu.edu includes facilities accessible only by those with user accounts on the server (including departmental faculty, staff, graduate students, and others with appropriate connections to the department). These facilities provide access to email, files, and other resources on the server. Such access requires the use of a user id and password. All login attempts, whether successful or not, are logged for security reasons. Cookies are used by the secure server to keep track of users' logins. All transmission of data to or from the secure server is encrypted with SSL. The server has a verified SSL certificate to provide authentication to users. All uses of the departmental server through the secure site are subject to the laws of the State of Texas and policies concerning the use of university resources.

State law requires that you be informed of the following:

  1. You are entitled to request that you be informed about any information about you collected by use of email forms (with a few exceptions as provided by law).
  2. You are entitled to receive and review that information.
  3. You are entitled to have the information corrected at no charge to you.

Security

This site has security measures in place to ensure that information collected under control of the site is protected from loss, misuse, and alteration.
