Congratulations to Roger Sansom, who has been promoted to the rank of tenured Associate Professor of Philosophy, effective September 1, 2008.


The Philosophy Department at Texas A&M was mentioned in a recent New York Times article about the resurgence of interest in Philosophy at US colleges and universities.


Congratulations to Claire Katz, Mike LeBuffe, Hugh McCann, and Colleen Murphy, all of whom received awards from the 2008 Program to Enhance Scholarly and Creative Activities. These grants are made available on a competitive basis through the Office of Sponsored Projects in the Office of the Vice President for Research.


David and Anna Henderson are pleased to announce the birth of their second child, Mackenzie Kharys Henderson, on March 31, 2008. At the time of her birth, Mackenzie was 8 lb., 4 oz. and 20.5 inches in length.


We are pleased to announce that Kristi Sweet and Benjamin McMyler will join the tenure-track faculty in the Fall of 2008. Dr. Sweet received her Ph.D in 2006 from Loyola University in Chicago. She is a specialist in Kantian philosophy, ethics, aesthetics, and feminism. Ben McMyler is a Ph.D candidate at the University of Chicago, and he is scheduled to defend his dissertation in the Spring of 2008. He specializes in epistemology, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of language.


Congratulations to Colleen Murphy, who was awarded an NEH Summer Stipend for 2008 to develop her research on the topic of political reconciliation.


Linda Radzik's new book, Making Amends: Atonement in Morality, Law and Politics has been contracted for publication by Oxford University Press.


Robert Burch and Muhammad Haris will represent Texas A&M at the 2008 Philosophical Collaborations conference at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale (March 27-28, 2008).


Michael Oviedo passed his oral exam for the M.A. on Wednesday, March 5, with flying colors. Present were Professors Stjpe Mestrovic (Sociology), Kristi Sweet (Philosophy) and committee chair Scott Austin (Philosophy). The thesis, on the idea of friendship in Plato, Aristotle, and Kant, will continue to occupy Michael this summer as he works on article manuscripts stemming from it. Please congratulate him when you see him.


Congratulations to the other philosophy MA graduate students who defended and passed their theses, who are Benjamin Craig, Preston Stovall, Charlie Siu, Ty Camp, Jake Greenblum, and Philip Park. Please congratulate each of them as you see them.
